Being an Asian American straight male is the anomaly in the theater world. Growing up in the asian culture, I always found theater and acting to be the outlet I needed to confront the pressures of this high achievement culture. As I grew older, I found myself asking, “why aren’t more asian kids interested exploring the theater/acting arena as a pursuit or better yet, why aren’t more asian kids encouraged to pursue the arts a career option?” I wanted to help asian youths better understand how art could be incorporated in their life by introducing various experiences and possibilities within this realm. I hope this will open up more minds to the options that can be available to kids within Asian culture.
